December Title Update & Editable Boxers

With today's announcement of the DLC coming in December, we also wanted to add that a free component will also be made available at the same time consisting of a new Title Update and more free Gear.  Here's a quick blog from Producer Mike Mahar:

Hello Fight Night 4 fans,

Over the last couple of months our community members have been providing us with feedback and we thank you for that.

We're extremely flattered to know we have a dedicated group of passionate fans who are willing to spend time playing the game and providing us with insight into how it may be improved.

Brizzo and I have been on Podcasts, the forums, and PM's answering your questions, and while we didn't have time to add all the feature requests into the game, we significantly overhauled some of the game play elements to address your online gameplay concerns. Here is a list of some of high profile additions you can expect in the next update.

Game Play Updates
-    Adjusted the locomotion speed at close proximity so that your opponent can no longer trap you with glued feet
-    Increased the stamina cost when continually punching
-    Increased stamina loss when continually weaving
-    Increased stamina loss for users that spam upper body movement
-    Can no longer perform a perfect block when spamming the block
-    Increased the stamina cost when continually running away from your opponent
-    No illegal blows can be thrown by either user when one user is in a stun state
-    Increased stamina cost of Haymakers
-    Tuned punch accuracy when opponents are moving their head
-    Reduced locomotion speed when throwing punch combos

Create Player Updates
-    Allow users to duplicate and edit ratings of licensed boxers

Online World Championship Updates
-    Improved cheat detection logic

General Updates
-    Various Bug fixes

These updates will be available for FREE. Also available for free are over a dozen new Create Boxer accessories including Boots, Trunks, and Gloves.

As mentioned in a previous blog, you can choose to purchase all of the DLC content at the bundled price OR you can choose to purchase each game mode and boxer separately.

The bundled price will save you some coin, but ultimately it's your choice what you purchase. Final prices are still being locked down so be on the lookout for more information coming soon.

We hope you enjoy the game play changes and the free gear.  See you online!

-Mike

SK88z, in this update, the dev team fixed the retraction of the punches? You use the word locomotion. Is that the same thing? Remeber a couple months ago, I blogged asking if it was possible to slow down the retraction of the arm when punching cause it looked to robotic? And you said it was too big a thing to do, but would be considered for Fight Night Round 5. Does slowing of the locomation mean just that? That would be awesome. One last thing if some could help me understand. Why would somebody want to alter the ratings of liscensed boxers? What does that achieve? And the sliders in the options of the game, what's to stop me from sliding them all the way to the right when it comes to power, stamina, speed, etc etc.? As much as this game grew on me, I'm so confused with some aspects of this game. Sorry Sk88z, so many questions I know.

i hope there are Cleto Reyes gloves. i think that in legacy mode your fighter should be aloud to go up and down weight classes wen ever but it should need extra training or somthing, because if there is a light heavy Hopkins then we wont have a chance to pound on Pavlik or Winky. wat dose everyone think

We need more hair styles, such as skin fade mike Tyson style, high fade,Pernell "sweet pea" Whitaker style,etc........and the cabs headline shouldn't be so high up,and the shape and size of the head should be adjustable.

and the head movement of the players should be allot more smoother like this www.youtube.com/watch  in the video notice how Pernell Whitaker slips the punches

the style in the way he does it and weaving while moving and the effect it would have on the other boxer rarely able to hit  him and the frustration he would get from not being able to hit anything.

different weaving to change on the fly while in game.

and different punch styles to give boxers an identity.

OMG I'M PUMPED!! You guys have no idea on what this means!! Being able to return to the sweet science by outsmarting your opponent with gameplan and skill vs. who can exploit the game the best...you cannot put a price tag on this. I touted this game from day one to all my gaming friends and anyone that would listen, but like a lot of others the online play soured me on the game. I'll reserve judgment ultimately until after it's release. But if this update works as anticipated I will return to being one of the biggest believers in FN!

i like how this updates gonna rid this game of all the spammers and cheaters. although, i have a question on the "duplicate and edit ratings of licensed boxers". wouldnt that contradict what it is your trying to do. im all for the realism of this game, thats what made me fall in love with it in the first place. with this editting of the ratings wouldnt that mess everything up? then everybodys gonna boost power and accuracy and leave the online of this game still filled with spamming d-bags. keep it a boxing game like it is now. everythings fine except the thought of having people ruin the game because they want ali to hit as hard as foreman, or tyson to move like ali. can you shed more light on what editting ratings of licensed boxers really means.

This all sound great but let's just wait on how it will affect the game. I really hope these improvements will punish those who use cheap and unrealistic tactics (kirbx...) but I'll have to see it with my own eyes before believing it. The first dlc wasn't supposed to bring some help in that matter? Anyway, I'm praying hard that this patch will be the anwser that all boxing fans are waiting for.. No more illimited hooks and haymakers without getting tired, what a perfect world!!!

Come on! No new options for costume characters? New hair styles, "cranium" adjustment editor, facial hair styles, head movements editor, new power punches, new nick names, cities, etc. Come on EA im begging you! Please, baby please, baby baby baby PLEASE!

Fish_Scotland said:

November 13, 2009 9:16 AM

Yeh this all sounds good although I'm a little concerned with "Increased the stamina cost when continually running away from your opponent" as I feel this may cancel out the long overdue patches for; Increased the stamina cost when continually punching, Increased stamina loss when continually weaving, Increased stamina loss for users that spam upper body movement. If the adjustment is only slight then it will be fine but if the decrease in stamina matches the decreases required for say spamming of upper body movement or continually punches then there may be a problem. That will then still keep the emphasis on insight fighting rather than giving each style having it's own merits.

WNWoodmore said:

It would be nice if your created boxer could start out with perhaps 510 points, instead of 485 points to use for attributes. Also, more hair styles would be nice... like something similar to what Roy Jones, Jr. has.

Onyd said:

Some of you who comment about editing stats messing up online play... You really think they will allow edited licensed boxers online in ranked matches? Like was stated, COPIED and EDITED versions. IE: When you play online you cannot use the edited versions. Alternatively the game would check to see if your version of the boxer matches EAs version and if not it would set him back to default. This is just like in FIFA, the game checks to make sure everyone is using the right stuff, otherwise cheating would be rampant and online would be completely pointless.

This sounds awesome, I will now be picking the game up at a decent price and with a forthcoming update to refocus the game in what looks to be a more realistic direction.

Manny Pacquiao just beat Miguel Cotto in dominating fashion.  He is now considered to be one of the greatest boxers to have ever lived. He now has the new world record of holding 7 different titles in different weight classes. Since, Fight Night is a fight simulation. I want to see an update on Manny Pacquiao! He is recognized by his special talents of speed and power. How about stepping it up for all the Pacman fans out there and giving a updated version that is more true to the skills of the POUND 4 POUND KING OF THE RING.

And while your at it, how about also having a version of Manny, when he was in the feather weights. I want to be to challenge all the other famous lower weight classes like, Morales, Barrera, etc.

I hope EA take into consideration the online part of the game in terms of matching players up against each other in ranked matches. My issue is playing against opponents who use buttons, I myself use the analogue as i think clearly represents the sweet science in the best way compared to buttons which is very unrealistic and kills the game. Playing against people who button mash really takes away all the skill analogue users bring in playing this game. I just hope you can take this into account so that people who use the analogue stick can fight only with users who also use the analogue stick.

I would also like to see some more light heavyweight boxers in the game!!!!!

Thanks for the update and adding the new fighters and modes but some of these other ones are questionable to me. I know they are a lot of crappy players online but some of these changes takes away from the art/science of boxing. Slowing the localmotion while throwing combination's? Have you ever watch the real Paquiao or Mosley fight? Or Mayweather? Tuned punch accuracy when opponents are moving their head? Head movement is a big part of boxing. Thats what made Tyson so dangerous. Now thats not going to be much of difference? Im no developer but if the movement (footwork) could be made more realistic somehow that would be great. Faster movement, pivoting, moving your feet and being able to duck/doge at the same time. Maybe FN 5?

I would like to thank the EA producers for the gameplay update, one thing I liked about fnr3 was the damage system. It would be cool to see that update for fnr4. I love messing somebody's face up in fnr3. Also the tko system if a fighter was not defending himself intelligently gave a realistic feel to a boxing match in fnr3.
